e4oxy | Thesis
MAY. 2. 2007
“Collaborative Generation of Content Using Mobile Device within a Hybrid Private/Public Space”
Created a business plan and technical architecture to produce an innovative marketing platform that engages the public in an interactive relationship with a corporate sponsor.
Key concept: By offering individuals the opportunity to participate in the creation of large-scale “Times Square” –style signage using their cell-phone cameras, companies can create a much deeper emotional bond with the public than simply bombarding them with passive images. Developed all aspects of the product, including kiosk and user-interface design, cell-phone programming in Java, and mainframe and database architecture.
Implementation: e4oxy.com is a innovative communications platform, which is developed using j2me and linked to a central database system which allows for instantaneous content creation and collaboration between a group of users within a public sphere. This collaborating allows for each users to leave a physical imprint within the public space and share that moment with their friends and family.
United Cultures | Map API
APR. 2007
This installation created an infrastructure that permits participants to submit cultural content (stories and multi-media) to a web-site that embeds it into an online map. The technology encompassed AJAX, PHP, SQL, and Yahoo Map API. The project laid the groundwork for a “news map,” which is modeled using the traditional “heat map” paradigm.

JellyWeb | Processing.org
APR. 2006
This project is inspired by the organic shapes of jellyfish: as the participant moves a mouse or strokes a touch-sensitive screen, the lines move and interact with each other to form unique shapes like jellyfish. Jelly-like movements are very attractive in the sense that the lines are always connected in the middle of various transformations of shape.
Technical Background
The main technical aspect of this project is the usage of "Processing" language to perform various drawings and add animation to them. In terms of drawing, I am planning to incorporate the right formula that can generate the most organic shape of jellyfish. Moreover, in terms of data structure, I will be using vector 3D to enhance the organic movement of jellyfish in three dimensional shapes.
Description / User Scenario
This project creates a shape of a jellyfish with a single mouse click. The main body of the jellyfish is the starting point, and the point that the user clicks is the end point of the jellyfish’s tail. The drawing is connected from the new point.
In this work, mouse click creates the boundaries of interaction between the object and the user. This defines the interactive relationship between the user and the object. The boundary value is set and connected by the visual effect of the object’s story. The audience attempt to connect the object’s drawings to their gestures because of the continuously layering effect.

Blind & Deaf Sound | PComp
DEC. 2005
“Blind and Deaf Sound” is an interactive Sound Installation: The main object of this piece is made with different-sized parts, attached to each other to generate the intended trumpet-shape. Depending on the location of the audience and the relative position of sculpture, the lamp and speaker, installed within the sculpture, will react. The motion sensors are installed between the ceiling and the sculpture, and depending on the distance detected by them, the sound’s decibel will vary. The sounds will bugle, but similar to the ones coming from the piano, which each clear note.

Look at Me! | Interactive
MAR. 2002
The reflection between the subjects and the three people presented by the artist is to serve as the sole medium in this work. When the subject enters, it is greeted by a screen which provides its reflection on half of the screen and the other half is filled with a third person with whom the subject starts communication. Initially, the subject recognizes the third person as himself, but the angle of the camera divides the subject and his reflection which allows for the complete division between the inner subject and his exterior being. This work represents the division between the inner self and the exterior self. The starting point is when the subject is lead to unconsciously believe the reflection as himself.

230M | Sound Installation
APR. 2002
The resonating sound one hears from a sky rise was conceived from the fragments of the city’s sound entangled within the atmosphere hanging from the sky like a dense curtain. The purpose of the project was to collect the artificially induced weeping sounds heard from the tall buildings and to replay the synthesized sounds as really as possible. The sounds were collected from an altitude of 230 meters on top of the World Trade Center in Seoul, Korea; thus the title of 230 meters. As we passed through the industrial age, higher and higher has become to represent the external desire to satisfy the higher aspirations exhibited in the daily lives. We can witness this from the diminishing value of our principles with increasing exposure. In order to experience the work, among our senses, the subject can only utilize hearing to experience the sounds collected at 230 meter altitude, the slanted floor and the feeling of the wall brushing against the fingertips when walking up the slope.

The reality that we perceive is multi-faceted and we experience it through the stream of time that flows within the rhythms of our lives. When the compete image is perceived through the square frame of a camera lens, therein exists a different shapes and forms of the sculpture that creates mysterious colors and a dream-like atmosphere of light at the moment that the picture is taken or the image itself contains an abstract and structured form. All objects, conditions and the process of reconciliation radiates beauty within itself.
